BEE Project’s “Green Energy Futures for All” Program Concludes at CAST Tech High School, Empowering Students to Innovate for a Sustainable Future
San Antonio, TX – November 13, 2024 – The BEE Project is proud to announce the successful conclusion of the Green Energy Futures: Energy Efficiency and Resiliency for All program at CAST Tech High School. Over the past two weeks, students were immersed in hands-on learning about Texas’s energy landscape, including topics such as the energy market, rising energy demands, and the critical importance of energy efficiency programs for a sustainable future. This program was supported by members of the Texas Energy Empowerment Alliance (TEEA), including Energy Bees, Guidehouse, CLEAResult, and Frontier Energy.
The program empowered students to research and develop innovative energy solutions and program enhancements, which were presented to a panel of industry experts. Students were tasked with addressing challenges like energy equity and sustainability for their communities in their presentations. Their ideas included a wide range of solutions, from technological innovations to community-centered campaigns, including:
The Energy Ray: A cutting-edge concept for 24/7 solar energy capture, allowing solar energy to be harvested continuously for increased efficiency.
User Experience (UX) Improvements for Energy Efficiency Program Websites: A project focused on improving the accessibility and user-friendliness of energy efficiency program websites, making it easier for all users to navigate and access resources.
Shut-Down Campaign for Youth: An initiative to raise awareness among young people about reducing energy waste through simple actions like powering down devices.
Buy Locally Made Products Campaign: A campaign promoting the use of locally made products to reduce transportation-related energy costs and support sustainable consumption in the community.
"We’re thrilled to see these students’ creativity, passion, and commitment to addressing energy challenges," said Sadie Bronk, Executive Director of the BEE Project. "The energy solutions they developed and presented were inspiring, and it’s clear they’ve taken away valuable insights about how they can make an impact in their communities."
The program was designed to align with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards for Environmental Sciences and provided students with practical insights into the Texas energy industry. Through interactive learning and mentorship from professionals at Guidehouse, CLEAResult, and Energy Bees, students explored real-world applications of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and the impact of green technologies on their communities. This hands-on experience gave them tools to critically analyze energy challenges and propose solutions that could influence an energy resilient future for Texas.
